A note from Rick

Our biggest year yet, and why it matters to you

Dear Friends,

We've shared a lot of updates this year, but I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the bigger picture. I've learned over the years that doing the hard work up front often creates the foundation for long-term success. That's really what this year has been about: building a stronger, more independent firm around one central question: How can we serve you better?

Here's what changed, why it matters to you, and a few dates to save.

IN THIS ISSUE
A new chapter

Our independent RIA, built around you

This year marked a major milestone for Scheeler Financial LLC as we launched our own independent Registered Investment Adviser (RIA). While our commitment to acting in your best interests hasn't changed, we now have greater independence and flexibility to make decisions, develop solutions, and invest in resources that directly benefit you, without the limitations of another firm's platform or priorities.

That independence has opened the door to exciting developments, including our new investment strategy, the publication of Purposeful Wealth, an expanded team, and enhanced technology. To everyone who has joined us on this journey, thank you. Your continued confidence and trust mean a great deal to us.

Feature: SFG StratTac

Introducing SFG StratTac

For decades, traditional portfolio construction has relied on a combination of stocks and bonds to balance growth and risk. While bonds continue to play an important role in diversified portfolios, recent market conditions have highlighted the limitations of relying on them alone for downside protection. In 2022, for example, rising interest rates contributed to significant declines in both stock and bond markets, demonstrating that even traditionally diversified portfolios can experience substantial losses.

Traditional diversification remains an important foundation of portfolio management, but we believe it can be complemented by a more dynamic approach. Rather than relying exclusively on fixed allocations through changing market conditions, we sought to develop a strategy that could respond systematically to evolving opportunities and risks.

Advances in technology, investment research, and trading efficiency have made it possible to implement more responsive investment strategies. By combining disciplined stock selection with systematic, rules-based tactical decisions, we aim to pursue long-term growth while adapting to changing market conditions. That's the philosophy behind SFG StratTac.

Bar chart: total returns for the S&P 500 Total Return Index and Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Bond Index. 1 year through 9/30/2026: stocks 15.7%, bonds −1.8%. 5 years annualized through 9/30/2026: stocks 13.8%, bonds −0.6%. Calendar year 2022: stocks −18.1%, bonds −13.0%. Sources: S&P Dow Jones Indices and Bloomberg. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

Sherman Research signals decide when to be invested. The tactical half is split four ways:

55%S&P Top 4 Sectors
25%Top 5 Asset Classes
10%Energy
10%Gold

When a signal turns negative, that slice moves to T-bills.

How the tactics work. Each market signal governs a specific portion of the tactical portfolio. When a signal turns negative, the corresponding allocation shifts to a defensive position, typically short-term Treasury bills, until the signal turns positive again. The process is systematic, designed to respond to changing market conditions rather than emotional reactions.

Where it stands today. Currently, most tactical signals are negative, resulting in a significant portion of the tactical portfolio being allocated to short-term Treasury bills. This positioning reflects the strategy's disciplined approach to risk management. While it may limit participation in continued market gains, it also reduces equity exposure during periods when the signals indicate heightened risk.

We've spent more than three years refining this process and formed a joint venture with Advyzon Investment Management to offer StratTac as a Unified Managed Account (UMA): one professionally managed account with cleaner reporting and simpler paperwork.

Your questions, answered

Purposeful Wealth is here

Purposeful Wealth: The Strategic Roadmap to Financial Peace and Purpose, by Rick Scheeler with Bernadette Scheeler

What happens when you've spent decades building wealth, but still aren't sure what it's all for? I wrote this book for people approaching or in retirement who want more than just more.

It brings together finance, neuroscience and faith, and introduces our Red Brain / Blue Brain framework: a practical way to notice when fear is driving a money decision, and shift toward a solution.

"Retirement is one of the highest-pressure transitions most people will ever face, and money is where that alarm rings loudest. … Purposeful Wealth doesn't pretend the fear isn't there. It gives readers a practical way to move from problem to solution."

— Dr. Jason Selk, former Director of Mental Training, St. Louis Cardinals; author of Relentless Solution Focus

Dr. Jason Selk is not a client of Scheeler Financial Group and has previously served as Rick Scheeler's professional coach. Dr. Selk received a complimentary copy of Purposeful Wealth and voluntarily provided this endorsement after reading the book. No compensation was provided in exchange for his statement. His comments reflect his personal opinion of the book and do not constitute an evaluation of SFG's investment advisory services.

"Rick, I just finished reading your book. It's excellent. … Your service to us has been excellent and included every aspect of financial advising you describe in the book."

If it resonated with you, a quick Amazon review or a copy for your adult children goes a long way. Next year we're also launching the Purposeful Conversation Series, covering estate planning, tax strategy, family gifting, charitable giving and retirement income.

If you've read my book and would like to leave a review, I'd be grateful. It only takes a minute and helps others find it.

Family update

Life at the Scheeler house

Ellie

Ellie and I hit 30 years together this July and look forward to our 30th wedding anniversary next year. What a ride! She keeps our household running, serves as our chief technology and compliance officer, is fully investment licensed, and also enjoys meeting with clients, including her own! I can't imagine doing any of it with anyone else.

Rick and Ellie Scheeler on a train in Europe

Paul

Paul is back from China and living in Boston with his wife. It's a joy to have them stateside.

Paul and Emily at their traditional Chinese wedding, with Bridget

Catherine

Catherine is a neuro-ICU nurse on the night shift in Phoenix. Her journey has opened my eyes to how demanding it is to become a nurse, and even more so to be one. We celebrated her graduation with a special trip to Europe together.

Rick and Catherine at the Trevi Fountain in Rome

Bernadette

A senior in Air Force ROTC, Bernadette earned the Combat Systems Operator role (the officer behind the pilot who runs navigation and mission systems), has also applied for the Office of Special Investigations, and received the Cadre Top Performer Award at the Air Force Academy this past summer. She also edited Purposeful Wealth!

Bridget

Bridget is a sophomore at the University of Dayton, and it's wonderful having her close. She traveled to China for Paul's traditional Chinese wedding ceremonies. She's also in Air Force ROTC and on track for field training this summer, though she's still deciding.

John

John is enjoying his 8th grade year at St. Sue’s. He is looking forward to shadowing high schools and figuring out the next four years. He enjoyed another quick trip to Europe this fall. While London has its appeal to most of us, the 13-year-old was most impressed with the “bridge that blew up in Spider-Man!” Rome simply blew him away!

Thank you for your trust and friendship. It's a privilege to walk alongside you and your family.

Warm regards,
Rick

P.S. The greatest compliment you can give us is an introduction. If you know someone who'd benefit from a conversation about purposeful wealth, we'd be honored to help, or simply share a copy of the book.
